In this meditation you will swim with dolphins and .... a mermaid! In my classes this is the first meditation we do and everyone gets to choose their own crystal to keep. Crystals are precious stones that are formed in the Earth. There are many different kinds, colours and shapes. They can be natural, polished, held in your hands, worn as jewellery, placed on your body AND they all have different qualities like magical powers that can help you. The purple amethyst and rose quartz are great to hold or have near you when you meditate.
purple amethyst
The purple amethyst was known in the ancient world as the “Gem of Fire” and was worth as much as a diamond!
The name Amethyst comes from the Greek word amethusthos which means “not intoxicated. The ancient legend goes that the God of Wine “Bacchus” was so angry over an insult that he decided that the next person he met he would feed to his tigers. The unfortunate mortal was a young girl called Amethyst who was on her way to pray at the shrine of the Goddess Diana. As the tigers leapt at he she sought protection from the Goddess Diana, who turned her into a clear white crystal. Bacchs felt sad and regretted his cruelty, so he poured the juice of his purple grapes over the crystal which gave it its purple colour.
So one of the powers of amethyst is to help prevent drunkeness or having too much of anything. Its also known for its protective qualities - travellers wore it to protect them from surprise attacks, it assisted hunters catching food, soldiers wore or carried it and it was also said to protect against disease.
These days, it is used to help with meditation, spirituality and contentment. It has a high frequency to purify the aura of any negative energy and creates a protective shield of light around the body. Its also good for the third eye and crown chakras. It enhances creativity and passion, strengthens imagination and helps bring projects to fruition.
It’s the stone of St Valentine (Valentines Day is the 14th of February) as he is said to have worn an amethyst ring with cupid engraved on it.
Amethyst calms and soothes. It relieves obsessive compusive disorder and hyperactivity in children and animals.
Place it under your pillow at night or you can rub in on the centre of your forehead to cure insomnia and have sweet dreams - really good if you have nightmares, or if you are afraid of the dark and it helps with homesickness!
rose quartz
The Rose Quartz is also known as the heart stone as its often used to help attract romantic love and also to help develop a closer bond between family and friends.
It inspires the love of beauty, in self and in others, in nature and especially the imagination for art, music and the written word.
Rose quartz is also a wonderful sleep crystal, providing beautiful dreams, preventing nightmares and helps children not to be afraid of the dark.
It’s very good from the heart chakra, helping you to love yourself and to give and receive love from others.
It is awesome for dissolving fears and releasing emotional wounds, and is perfect for meditation!
cLeaning your crystal
You can:
1. Place your crystal under the moonlight (especially good if its a full moon!) for a night or a few nights. Some people use sunlight as well but the sunshine can make the colour of your crystal fade...(which is funny because sunlight adds colour to us!)
2. Bury your crystal in the earth (or a flower pot) for 3-7 days.
3. Wash your crystal in salt water (the ocean). This is great for us because we are near the beach. Some crystals (opal, turquoise, labrodite) don’t do so well because they are porous or soft and the salt water can get in and break them but yours are fine!
